In the dead of winter, acrobats, directors and master teachers will pull their snow boots over their tights to bring Chicago the type of circus festival that the United States has been woefully lacking. 4 days of workshops, 3 days of full-length contemporary circus shows, and 2 late-night cabaret style performances, with the intent of creating a new and educated audience for circus in America. From solo clown shows to large scale ensemble-based spectacles, from the intimate to the outrageous, the Chicago Contemporary Circus Festival will open eyes and blow the doors off the idea that the circus is a big-top, big-budget extravaganza.
